2 Killed, 4 Injured as Cars Collide During Police Chase
A car fleeing police Sunday slammed into another vehicle at a Huntington Beach intersection, killing two people and injuring at least four, police said.
Police said an occupant of each car was killed, and at least one person was critically injured. Victims’ identities were not immediately released.
The fatal crash occurred shortly after 2 p.m. at Edinger Avenue and Newland Street.
The police chase had begun in neighboring Fountain Valley, when a motorist reported seeing a woman rummaging through his car while it was parked at a gas station, said Fountain Valley Police Lt. Larry Griswold.
The motorist said he confronted the woman and a male companion, but the pair fled in a white 1994 Ford Escort. Officers responding to the call saw the car leave and chased it. Police had pursued the car for two or three miles when the crash occurred, Griswold said.
