Top-Ranked Ventura Women Bury Bakersfield

Cindy Jenson scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Ventura College women’s basketball team to a 109-55 victory over Bakersfield in a Western State Conference interdivisional game Thursday night at Ventura.

Marina Torres added 11 points, 14 steals and seven assists for Ventura, the state’s top-ranked team with a 19-0 record, 5-0 in WSC play.

April Garrish scored 15 points, Adria Sneed had 14 and Brianna Kanongata’a scored 12 for Ventura. Tori Anderson and Kara Newman each added 11 points.

Canyons 72, Santa Barbara 53--Melissa Dunkerley and Stephanie Labor each scored 20 points for the Cougars (12-8, 4-1) in a WSC interdivisional game at Santa Barbara.

Dunkerley had three three-point baskets in the second half and Labor hit two in the first half. Maxine Unverserth had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars.

Marcia Williams scored 13 points for Santa Barbara (6-12, 1-4).

Moorpark 68, Pierce 59--Corey Phillips scored 19 points and Trisha Palmquist added 17 for the Raiders (8-8, 3-2) in a WSC interdivisional game.

Shanna Sasaki scored 28 points, including six three-pointers, for Pierce (5-12, 0-5).

Cuesta 56, Valley 52--Shawanda Hotchkiss’ 19 points were not enough for the Monarchs (14-9) in a WSC interdivisional game at Cuesta (12-7).

Concordia 88, The Master’s 62--Kim DeVries had 23 points and nine rebounds for the Mustangs (4-12) in a nonconference game at home.

Ramah Andrews added 14 points and seven rebounds. The Master’s committed 29 turnovers, which Concordia converted into 25 points.

Melissa Ridge led Concordia with 15 points.

MEN

Moorpark 66, West L.A. 56--Wendell Nunnery scored 11 of his 18 points in the second half for the Raiders in a WSC interdivisional game.

Tim Nunnery added 14 for Moorpark (9-11, 3-1).

Valley 91, Cuesta 69--Lamarr Thompson scored 20 points for the Monarchs (14-7, 3-1), ranked 19th in the state, in a WSC interdivisional game at Cuesta.

Vernon Simmons and Nate Connor each added 15 points. Benny Hoang had six points and 11 rebounds.
