Canoga Park Passes Underdog Reseda in Overdrive, 71-68

Close call for Canoga Park High.

The Hunters, ranked No. 2 in The Times’ regional poll, needed overtime to defeat Reseda, 71-68, in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game Friday night at Reseda.

Anthony Ellison made two free throws with eight seconds left in overtime to ice the victory for Canoga Park (13-2, 2-0 in conference play).

Ellison had 23 points and 21 rebounds for the Hunters, who trailed, 51-44, entering the fourth quarter.

Carloes Harper added 18 points and 10 rebounds for Canoga Park.

Mandeep Hayre had 21 points for the Regents (4-11, 0-2).

Hart 90, Valencia 42--The Vikings stayed even for a quarter before the Indians broke away with a 56-17 surge over the next two quarters in a Foothill League game at Valencia.

Amir Parvinchiha scored 16 points, Casey Keltner added 14 and Kurt Lippincott had 13 for Hart (13-5, 2-0). Valencia is 5-11, 0-2.

Oxnard 66, Dos Pueblos 62--The Yellowjackets (7-7, 4-1) pulled into a four-way tie with Buena, Santa Barbara and Ventura for first place in the Channel League.

Charles Erving had 17 points and Danny Sweeney 16 for Oxnard.

Dos Pueblos is 5-8, 1-4.

Burroughs 68, Canyon 65--Jorge Sotomayor had 21 points and 10 rebounds as the Indians (10-6, 1-1) won a Foothill League game in overtime at home.

Brian Wallace scored 19 points for Canyon (11-7, 2-1).

First Lutheran 54, L.A. Lutheran 43--Jamahal Law had 23 points and 19 rebounds for the Falcons (8-6, 4-2) in a Heritage League game at L.A. Lutheran.

Kjohn Bennett added 15 points and 13 rebounds.

North Hollywood 95, Sylmar 67--Shannon Johnson had 26 points and 19 rebounds for the Huskies (4-12, 1-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Sylmar.

James Wilson added 20 points and eight assists.

Hollywood 79, Verdugo Hills 76--Maurice Potter’s 38 points and 14 rebounds weren’t enough for the Dons (7-10, 2-4) in a Northern Conference game at Hollywood.

Charlie Coronado added 18 points.

Van Nuys 65, Grant 53--Jon Okui had 26 points and nine assists, and Onaje Longmire added 18 for the Wolves (7-7, 2-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Van Nuys.

Donald Patterson scored 20 for the Lancers (7-8, 1-1).

Santa Clara 59, Malibu 51--Ian Fishburn and Jamie Mazur led the Sharks with 12 points each in a Frontier League defeat at Malibu.

The Sharks led by 10 at halftime, but committed 16 turnovers in the game and let the lead slip away. Fishburn also had 18 rebounds.

Harvard-Westlake 72, St. Francis 52--Leading by one point at halftime, the Wolverines used a 14-4 run at the start of the third quarter to break open a Mission League game at St. Francis.

Jason Collins had 27 points and 12 rebounds for Harvard (14-2, 5-0). Alex Gelbard and Jarron Collins each added 14 points.

Calabasas 71, Santa Paula 60--Ryan Coleman had 25 points and eight assists to lead the Coyotes (10-7, 1-2) in a Frontier League game at Calabasas. Gavin Citron added 22 points.

John Bell had 22 points for Santa Paula (10-6, 1-2), while Willie Zavala contributed 19 as high-scoring Josh Jimenez was held to four points.

Hoover 71, Pasadena 53--Sophomore Mark Hull had 18 points for the Tornadoes (10-7, 3-0) in a Pacific League game.

Hamlet Azarian added six points and 10 rebounds, and Eric Jenkins had 12 points and seven assists.

Cleveland 59, Granada Hills 51--Junior Brignac had 32 points, 12 rebounds and eight steals for the Cavaliers (7-6, 2-0) in the Northwest Valley game. Donald Holt added 14 points and 20 rebounds.

Leon Pimky had 21 points for Granada Hills (5-9, 1-1).

Notre Dame 61, Alemany 60--Chris Forde’s basket with three seconds left in overtime gave the Knights (9-9, 2-2) a Mission League victory.

Westlake 67, Thousand Oaks 66--Steve Aylsworth scored 20 points and Jeremiah Nesbitt added 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Warriors (10-5, 4-2) edged the Lancers (8-8, 2-4) in a Marmonte League game at Westlake.

Antelope Valley 73, Highland 60--Le-Tre Kelly scored 21 points for the Antelopes in a Golden League showdown at Antelope Valley.

John Burrell scored 33 points for the Bulldogs.
