El Toro Trips Fifth-Ranked Santa Margari ta

Travis Senik scored 29 points and had 12 rebounds to help El Toro upset fifth-ranked Santa Margarita, 60-57, in a Sea View League boys’ basketball game Friday night at El Toro High.

The Chargers (12-7, 1-2 in league) led by eight with two minutes left, then held off a late Santa Margarita rally.

Dennis Keane scored 20 for the Eagles (12-5, 2-1).

In another Sea View League game:

Woodbridge 60, Irvine 43--Chris Burgess scored 18 of his game-high 20 points in the second half for host Woodbridge (15-5, 2-1). Amir Rahimi had 14 points for Irvine (8-11, 2-1).

In the Empire League:

Century 44, El Dorado 39--Hector Beltran scored 22 points for Century (12-6, 2-0), which led by one at the half.

Katella 63, Loara 62--Hayes Kim sank a short jump shot with less than one second remaining to lift visiting Katella (13-3, 1-1). Jacy Armbruster had 17 points and Carlos Romero had 15 for the Knights. Mark Moses scored 22 points and Obaid Popal had 20 for Loara (9-8, 0-2).

In the Express League:

Huntington Beach Claremont 66, Long Beach Gethsemane Baptist 63 (OT)--Mario Rosario made a three-pointer at the buzzer in overtime to lift host Claremont. Rosario finished with 24 points and Ryan Kronkite had 14 points and 22 rebounds for Claremont.

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 66, Buena Park 47--Josh Lien scored 30 points for seventh-ranked Sonora (15-5, 3-0), which led by 12 at the half.

In the Golden West League:

Santa Ana 52, Ocean View 48--Santa Ana outscored Ocean View by eight in the fourth quarter. Ralph Jordan scored 17 and Raul Martinez had 14 for the Saints (11-6, 3-0).

Servite 71, Saddleback 57--Reserve Steve Shea had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Lance Day scored 17 for Servite (9-8, 2-1).

Tustin 90, Westminster 68--David Lalazarian scored 37 points and Robert Griffin 23 for second-ranked Tustin (16-3, 3-0). Scott Yoshizaki had 24 points for Westminster (6-12, 1-2).

In the Orange League:

Brea Olinda 60, Anaheim 48--Sean Wink scored 19 and Eric Repp had 16 for 10th-ranked Brea Olinda (14-2, 2-0), which led by 10 at the half.

Magnolia 57, Western 51--Mister McKinney scored 21 points and had nine rebounds for Magnolia (8-10, 1-1).

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 69, Brethren Christian 57--Joe Ortiz scored 23 points and Nate Morton had 22 for Calvary Chapel (14-4, 3-0), which outscored Brethren Christian by 17 in the second half.

Orange Lutheran 44, Whittier Christian 42--Robert Meaux had a steal and a layup with two seconds remaining to give the Lancers (6-10, 2-1) the victory. Brad Smith scored 20 points for Whittier Christian (4-15, 1-2).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Estancia 66, Costa Mesa 42--Brandon Casillas scored 21 points for host Estancia (15-4, 2-1). Mike Montoya had 15 points for Costa Mesa (4-14, 1-2).

Laguna Beach 54, Aliso Niguel 47--Down by one point at the end of the third quarter, Laguna Beach rallied to win. Enver Soobzokov had 18 points and six assists and Teo Moore had nine rebounds for Laguna Beach (8-9, 2-1).

Laguna Hills 91, University 74--Matt Houser scored 35 points and Mike Scaglione had 25 for Laguna Hills, which led by 18 after the first quarter.

In the Sunset League:

Esperanza 73, Marina 40--Third-ranked Esperanza held Marina without a field goal in the fourth quarter and gave up only seven of 30 in the game. Josh Greer scored 15 for the Aztecs (16-3, 2-1).

Huntington Beach 56, Edison 54--David Medlen rebounded Matt Jones’ miss and scored at the buzzer to give visiting Huntington Beach the victory. They were Medlen’s only points of the game.

Jones finished with 26 points for the Oilers (5-12, 2-1). Joe Khamis and Dimitri Karnezis each had 14 points for Edison.

In Academy League girls’ basketball:

Capistrano Valley Christian 47, Fairmont 27--Aurora Cerne and Olivia Lindsay each scored 10 points for the Eagles (9-6, 2-0). Anchal Saigal had 13 points for Fairmont (4-7, 0-2).
