Woman Dies, Boy Hurt in Accidents

An elderly woman and her dog were killed and a 4-year-old boy was injured in separate hit-and-run accidents in Glendale, police said.

The 77-year-old woman and her dog died after being struck at 3:30 p.m. Friday while crossing Glendale Avenue at Monterey Road, Glendale Police Sgt. Bruce Fox said.

A car traveling south on Glendale Avenue struck the woman and dog while turning right onto Monterey Road, Fox said.

The driver of the car, described as an elderly, white-haired woman, fled in a blue, American-made sedan, police said.

The victim, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was taken to County-USC Medical Center but died six hours later, Fox said. The dog died at the scene, he said.

In a separate accident, a 4-year-old boy suffered a broken leg and collarbone after being hit Saturday night by a car in the 1200 block of South Adams Street, police said.

Police said an elderly woman driving a rusty, white, four-door car continued to travel south after striking the child. A male passenger was seen in the back seat, police said.

The boy was treated at Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles, police said.
