In the Canyon Springs Cougar Wrestling Classic:

Calvary Chapel edges Poway--Top-ranked Calvary Chapel had four wrestlers take first and four finish second. Tino Archuleta (112), Matt Azevedo (119), Joe Calavitta (135) and Ty Wilcox (152) won titles for the Eagles, who outscored runner-up Poway, 269 1/2-262.

In the Troy Wrestling Classic:

Brea Olinda wins--Andrew Murphy won a decision over Ryan Herbon of Aliso Niguel in the championship match at 215 pounds to give Brea Olinda the team title, edging Troy, 120 1/2-119 1/2.

Murphy was named the most valuable wrestler in the upper weights.

Evan Younger of Los Alamitos had three pins and a 4-0 decision over Gabi Martinez of Orange in the 119-pound final and was named the lower-weight most valuable wrestler.

In Express League boys’ basketball:

Heritage Christian 65, Long Beach Gethsemane Baptist 61 (OT)--Jim Findlater scored 29 points and Jared Zielinski had 17 points and 21 rebounds for host Heritage Christian (12-8, 7-3).

In nonleague boys’ basketball:

Fontana 92, Santa Ana Valley 68--Ike Harmon had 25 points and Olujimi Mann had 20 for visiting Santa Ana Valley (13-8). Corey Benjamin scored 26 points for Fontana (13-8).

In nonleague girls’ basketball:

Mater Dei 74, Ocean View 54--Melody Peterson and Ronnie Gondringer each scored 24 points to lead top-ranked Mater Dei (19-2), which forced 26 turnovers. Jennifer Tuiolosega scored a season-high 26 points for 10th-ranked Ocean View (15-7).

In nonleague girls’ soccer:

El Modena 2, Ventura Buena 1--Kaylee Whitfield’s second-half goal tied the score and Jill Pearson assisted Jessica Dahlberg on the go-ahead goal in the 62nd minute for El Modena (14-5-2), ranked sixth in Division II.
