Mounties Rescued by Stark’s Jump Shot

Senior guard Scott Stark made a jump shot from the left side of the key with two seconds left to lift Montclair Prep to a 70-68 victory over Chadwick in a Southern Section Division V basketball showdown Saturday in Palos Verdes.

The Mounties (20-3) entered the nonleague game ranked No. 1 in the section. Chadwick (18-6) was No. 2.

Anwawn Jones led Montclair Prep with 18 points, 13 rebounds and five steals. Akil Anderson added 18 points. Stark had 10 points and six assists.

Tyler Hoffman had 23 points for Chadwick and teammate Armand Dawkins had 21.

Hart 85, Valencia 50--Forward Cory Johnson scored 23 points as the Indians (17-7, 6-2) won their fourth consecutive Foothill League game and remained in a first-place tie with Burbank.

Amir Parvinchiha added 17 points, scoring in double figures for the third game in a row.

Kevin Woods had 11 points for Valencia (5-17, 0-8).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Bishop Montgomery 63, Alemany 49--Carly Funicello had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Kelli Kobayashi added 11 points for Alemany (16-7) in a nonleague game at Bishop Montgomery.

Oxnard 48, Dos Pueblos 39--Jaline Bradley scored 19 points and the Yellowjackets (15-7, 9-3) had 15 steals in a Channel League game.

WRESTLING

Bishop Amat 159, Harvard-Westlake 156, Alemany 130 1/2, St. John Bosco 123 1/2, Bishop Montgomery 89, Chaminade 69--The Wolverines won five weight divisions at the Mission League tournament at Harvard-Westlake. Paul Michels (119 pounds), Pat Anderson (140), Ron Linares (145), Matt Howard (160) and Josh Eisenberg (171) each defended his league title for Harvard. Michels and Eisenberg each pinned their opponent in the finals.

Joey Guardado (112), Alex Herrera (125) and Anthony Vitale (heavyweight) won titles for Alemany.
