Hit-Run Crash Kills Man in Wheelchair
A 31-year-old man who was in a wheelchair because of injuries received in a drive-by shooting was fatally injured near Compton when he was hit by a driver who left the scene, the California Highway Patrol said Tuesday.
Bobby Joe Smith was wheeling across Compton Boulevard near Castlegate Avenue in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County when he was hit by what witnesses said was a red or white car, said CHP Officer Rick Finley.
Smith was taken to Martin Luther King Jr. / Drew Medical Center where he died of injuries a few hours later.
