2 Simi Valley Men Hurt as Car Hits Pole
Two Simi Valley men suffered serious injuries Saturday after the car they were in skidded across two lanes of traffic and smashed into a wooden power pole, authorities said.
The driver, Manuel Torrez Hernandez, 23, was booked on suspicion of drunk driving, Simi Valley police said.
He was in good condition Saturday night at Simi Valley Hospital. His passenger, Manuel Castillo, was in critical condition, officials said.
Police believe that neither man was wearing a seat belt. Hernandez was driving south on Sycamore Drive about 6 p.m. when he lost control of the Ford Escort near Heywood Street. The car crossed the northbound lanes and hit the pole, breaking it in half.
No other vehicles were involved.
