O.C. Players Set to Participate in All-Star Games

Some of the best Orange County prep soccer players will participate in the Southern California high school all-star games beginning today at Azusa Pacific.

The games, sponsored by the Galaxy of Major League Soccer and the Standard Falcons of the United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues, features Southern Section seniors in a four-team format for boys and girls. County players will be on the boys’ and girls’ South teams.

In the girls’ games today, the South plays the North at noon and the East plays the West at 2 p.m. In the boys’ games, the South plays the North at 4 p.m. and the East plays the West at 6 p.m.

The boys’ championship game will be played at 8 p.m. Tuesday, after the boys’ third-place game at 6 p.m. The girls’ championship game will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, after the girls’ third-place game at 6 p.m.

The girls’ South team is coached by Rich Manning, who led Los Alamitos to the Southern Section Division I co-championship Friday. Manning is assisted by Jeff Pearson, who led El Modena to the Southern Section Division II title Saturday. The boys’ South team is coached by David McLeish of Marina.
