Master’s Women Go Out Early in Basketball Playoffs

After trailing by 11 points at halftime, The Master’s College women’s basketball team was trounced in the second half and lost to Montana State-Northern, 78-44, in the first round of the NAIA Pacific Northwest Regional tournament at Montana State-Northern on Wednesday night.
The Mustangs made only nine of 35 shots in the second half and were outscored, 42-19.
Master’s shot 28.6% for the game while the Skylights made 45.8% of their shots.
Ramah Andrews scored 15 points and Kim DeVries had 14 for the Mustangs (13-21), who committed 16 turnovers and were outrebounded, 49-31. Montana State-Northern is 23-4.
MEN’S TENNIS
Claremont-Mudd 6, Cal Lutheran 3--Mark Ellis defeated Ivan Zinn, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 singles to lead the Kingsmen in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match in Claremont. Ellis is 6-0. Cal Lutheran is 3-3, 2-2 in conference play.
Fresno State 5, Pepperdine 4--The No. 7-ranked Waves (8-4) had their 37-match home win streak snapped by the ninth-ranked Bulldogs.
Simon Aspelin and Michael Jessup each won singles matches for the Waves and were also members of winning doubles teams.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 9, Cal Lutheran 0--Cammy Idler at No. 6 singles had the best performance of the day for the host Regals (3-3-1, 1-3), losing, 6-3, 6-3, to Stella Ho in the SCIAC match.
Liza Tan, at No. 3 singles, suffered the worst beating, 6-1, 6-0, to Michelle Parenti.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps improved to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
