Share

Incumbent Rep. Robert K. Dornan (R-Garden Grove) and his opponents for the 46th Congressional District seat have been invited to discuss national and local educational issues at a free public forum Wednesday in Santa Ana.

The event is being sponsored by the UC Irvine Child Development Center and the Santa Ana Council of PTAs.

Ten candidates from five political parties have been invited.

Two candidates, one from the Reform Party and one of four Democrats, will not attend due to previous commitments, said Kathi Jo Brunning, president of the PTA council.

Four other candidates have said they will attend. Dornan and three others have not yet confirmed their attendance, she said.

The forum, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Santa Ana City Council Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza, will feature a three- to five-minute statement by each candidate, a question-and answer-session and two-minute closing statement from each candidate, Brunning said.

The forum will be moderated by Wendy Tobiska, legislative chair for the PTA council.

Issues will include the future of the U.S. Department of Education; the Goals 2000 program for educational reform and Proposition 203, which would provide bond money for public schools.
