Johnson’s Availability Is Still in Question

Swingman Kris Johnson’s back injury kept him out of drills Monday, and Bruin Coach Jim Harrick said a decision on Johnson’s availability for Thursday’s first-round game against Princeton won’t be made until Wednesday at the earliest.

Asked what his chances of playing were, Johnson said, “Fair to good.” He injured his back Saturday against Washington State.

“Getting a little bit better every day,” Harrick said. “Today’s he’s touching his toes and shooting around. He might even lightly practice tomorrow. If he continues to improve as much tomorrow as he did today he’ll be hopefully ready.”

Harrick said the team will bring a back support on the flight today to Indianapolis that will allow Johnson to make the trip without aggravating the injury.

Meanwhile, forward J.R. Henderson, who sat out the last two games because of strep throat, returned to practice--about 12 pounds lighter. Henderson said his main concern would be trying to regain as many pounds as he could before Thursday.
