Six Teams To Watch : San Clemente
Coach: Mike Hurlbut (fifth year).
1995: 17-6, 8-2 in the South Coast League; advanced to the final of the Southern Section Division I tournament, where it lost to Los Angeles Loyola.
Key returners: Brandon Taliaferro, 6-5, setter, Sr.; Chris Boden, 6-2, middle blocker, Sr.; James Obradovic, 6-2, middle blocker, Sr.; Chris Sebourn, 5-9, outside hitter, Jr.
Key newcomers: Colin Shaughnessy, 6-1, outside hitter, Jr.; Scott Harlan, 6-1, middle blocker, Sr.; Kyle Burgess, 6-2, setter, Sr.; Mike Kirby, 6-2, middle blocker, Sr.
Outlook: The Tritons are expected to be recovering this season from the loss of Gabe Gardner, The Times Orange County player of the year last season who attends USC. Also gone are Corin Bemus, a second-team all-county selection, and Rick Bruce, a second-team all-league selection. San Clemente may have the county’s best player in Taliaferro, but there are question marks all around him. Boden plans to have wrist surgery and will not be ready to play for at least a month.
