It’s Quite a Day for the Knights
Bishop Montgomery of Torrance capped a remarkable season with a gritty 46-42 victory over Bear River of Lake of the Pines to win the Division III girls’ state championship at Arco Arena Saturday.
The Knights were forced to forfeit 11 games because of ineligible players, but erased all the question marks when they pulled away from the Bruins down the stretch.
Danielle Graham and Jamilah Jones led Bishop Montgomery (18-17) with 11 points each, but Tiffany Washington, who finished with 10, had two key baskets in the final 2:01. Washington will go to USC in the fall while Jones will play at Cal State Northridge.
Bear River (34-2), which did not play a senior, was led by Michelle St. Clair and Kylee Keroher with 11 points each.
The game was close throughout, with neither team able to forge more than a five-point lead. The score was 39-39 with 2:57 left, but Bear River did not make another basket.
