SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Three-night stands by James Taylor and Santana and the return of “Tommy” are among the highlights of the Greek Theatre and Universal Amphitheatre seasons, which will both begin advance subscription sales on Sunday.

The Who’s “Tommy,” which played at Universal for six weeks in 1994, will be back June 5-6. Taylor is scheduled for Sept. 17-19. The Universal shows announced also include two benefit events: the VH1 Honors, supporting the Witness human rights program, April 28; and AIDS Project Los Angeles’ ninth annual Commitment to Life show honoring Seagrams chief executive Edgar Bronfman Jr. and Neil Diamond, July 18.

The Greek, which has already sold out four Alanis Morissette nights in June, will host Santana Sept. 20-22. The Greek will also have the first L.A. appearance by Creedence Clearwater Revisited (featuring original Creedence Clearwater Revival members Stu Cook and Doug Clifford, but not John Fogerty) on May 11, while the Universal on June 20 has the Monkees’ 30th anniversary tour.
