3-Day Used Book Sale to Aid CSUN Library

Share

A Cal State Northridge booster group will sponsor a three-day used book sale starting Tuesday, part of a biannual effort to raise money for the university’s Delmar T. Oviatt Library.

Approximately 6,000 donated volumes will be on sale at the library’s outdoor patio, said Alex Petach, chairman of the book collection committee for the Friends of the Oviatt Library.

“They’re essentially duplicates of material that has already been processed by the library,” Petach said, noting that offerings will include many coffee-table volumes and recent-vintage textbooks.

The sale will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. During the sale’s first two hours on Tuesday, only CSUN students with campus identification will be admitted, “To give [them] a chance,” Petach said. The campus is at 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge.

Petach said the group hopes to raise at least $5,000 for the library’s book fund, which is used to purchase new materials for the facility. Books will cost between 50 cents and $10 with most volumes priced at $1, he estimated.

“We’re trying to benefit the students,” he said. “We’re not out to make the ultimate dollar.”
