Vladislav Savrda switched his lineup, American counterpart Tom Gullickson didn’t and the Czech Republic took a 2-1 lead over the defending Davis Cup champions Saturday at Prague.

Savrda, the Czech captain, paired his top singles players, Petr Korda and Daniel Vacek, into a doubles team that defeated Patrick McEnroe and Patrick Galbraith, 6-2, 6-3, 6-3.

The Czechs had planned to use the team of Martin Damm and Jiri Novak against the Americans, and there was some thought that Gullickson would use Todd Martin, his top singles player but also one of the best doubles players in the world.

In other Davis Cup play, Sweden scored a four-set doubles victory over India, clinching their series, 3-0. The Swedes will meet the U.S.-Czech winner.
