Bryan Twins Move Closer to All-in-the-Family Final

In the interest of family harmony, twins Mike and Bob Bryan of Camarillo avoid facing each other in tennis tournaments, instead taking turns defaulting to each other.

But the way they have assaulted their competition this week in the Easter Bowl National Junior Championships, Mike and Bob might be the only players left for Saturday’s boys’ 18-and-under final.

The twins, who are members of the U.S. Junior National team, Thursday advanced to the semifinals at the Riviera Resort & Country Club in Palm Springs.

Mike Bryan, seeded third, routed fellow national team member Kevin Kim of Fullerton, 6-2, 6-1. Bob Bryan, seeded fourth, defeated Nick Crowell of Amarillo, Texas, 6-3, 6-4.

Today, the Bryans face opponents who struggled through three-set matches in the quarterfinals. Mike plays junior national teammate and top-seeded Mike Russell, and Bob opposes unseeded Brandon Hawk.

In other matches, top-seeded Tres Davis of Lubbock, Texas, defeated third-seeded Nicholas Weiss of Calabasas, 6-1, 6-4, in the semifinals of boys’ 14 singles, and second-seeded Mary Carlisle White of Spartanburg, S.C., defeated fifth-seeded Erin Boisclair of Agoura Hills, 4-6, 7-6 (5-7), 6-2, in the quarterfinals of girls’ 18s.
