A fire sparked by discarded cigarettes seriously burned a firefighter and caused $355,000 damage to a Mission Hills bar, authorities said.

The fire broke out about 2 a.m. Monday at Joe’s Bar in the 16200 block of San Fernando Mission Boulevard, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis.

The injured firefighter, whose name was not released, suffered second-degree burns on both ears and on the back of one hand. He was taken to Sherman Oaks Hospital and Health Center, where he was listed in serious condition, Collis said.

It took about 30 minutes for 50 firefighters to douse the flames, Collis said. The firefighters found the cigarettes after extinguishing the fire, he said.
