Strong Pitching Propels Dons to Victory

Sheryl Anderson’s pitching was a key element in Rancho Santiago’s 3-0 victory over Riverside in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Wednesday at Rancho Santiago.

Anderson struck out five and walked one for the Dons, who improved to 28-16-1, 11-5. Anderson (25-8-1) needs one more win to tie Kim Martin’s single-season record of 26 set for Rancho Santiago in 1986.

In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Saddleback 4, Orange Coast 0--Windy Scofield pitched a one-hitter for visiting Saddleback (27-8, 12-4), allowing only a two-out single in the sixth to LaNell Tucker. The Gauchos scored four unearned runs. Orange Coast is 3-23, 1-15.

Cypress 5, Golden West 1--Lisa Delligatta had two doubles and scored a run to help Cypress (35-12-1, 13-3).

Jamie Wilkes, in relief of starter Shana Rizzo, pitched out of a bases-loaded one-out jam in the top of the sixth with Cypress ahead, 2-1.

Jennifer Hollinger drove in the run for Golden West (11-12, 7-9).

Fullerton 4, Irvine Valley 1--Cara Hatt had two hits, including an RBI triple, and scored two runs for host Fullerton (29-8, 13-3). Irvine Valley is 16-24, 3-13.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:

Orange Coast 3, Irvine Valley 1--Mike Pixler had 19 kills for Orange Coast (18-1, 15-1), which clinched a tie for the conference title with a 15-13, 15-12, 15-9 victory.
