San Jose State Spoils the Day for Long Beach
Long Beach State missed a chance to win the Big West Conference baseball title outright after falling to San Jose State, 4-2, Saturday in San Jose.
Patrick Walsh stole home to cap a three-run fifth inning for the Spartans. Brian Forman began the rally with a run-scoring triple and Walsh followed with a single to tie the score, 2-2.
Jeff Tagliaferri, who had three hits and four runs batted in in the 49ers’ 15-1 victory over San Jose State Friday, remained hot at the plate with two hits, including an RBI double.
Rocky Biddle (4-5) took the loss for Long Beach State (31-21, 14-6), giving up three runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings.
The regular-season finale is at 1 p.m. today.
