Bridle Path Livestock May Get Own Zone

Share

Moving to smooth ruffled fur, the City Council has begun setting up a special zone governing the keeping of livestock in Simi Valley’s animal-friendly Bridle Path neighborhood.

The council voted 3 to 0 Monday to allow the Bridle Path Homeowners Assn. to seek a special set of city zoning rules.

The rules for the “animal-keeping overlay zone” would determine how, where and what kind of animals could be kept by homeowners in the hilly, semirural neighborhood along Simi Valley’s southwestern rim.

The homeowners association voted overwhelmingly in January to let residents continue keeping animals and even incorporated animal-keeping rules into its bylaws.

The city later encouraged the association to seek a more formal zoning declaration that would make the animal laws part of the city zoning plans.

The Planning Commission will review the association’s application, then make a recommendation to the City Council for a final vote.
