Cal Lutheran Stays Alive
Cal Lutheran remained alive in the NCAA Division III baseball championships, defeating Upper Iowa, 3-1, on Sunday, behind a route-going performance by freshman Erik Kiszczak.
The run against Kiszczak, who gave up six hits (all singles) and struck out six, was unearned.
The Kingsmen (32-13-1) struck early against Upper Iowa (37-14), giving Kiszczak two runs in the first on two hit batsmen and run-scoring singles by Rick Work and Ruben Torres.
Cal Lutheran’s final run came in the sixth when Rich Holmes followed Mike Young’s walk with a double down the left-field line.
The Kingsmen’s opponent today, William Paterson College, must first play Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 9 a.m. in a game that was postponed Sunday because of fog.
