Saddleback’s Lauderdale Honored
FRESNO — Jon Lauderdale, a sophomore at Saddleback College, was selected state community college co-most valuable baseball player of the year, it was announced Sunday.
Lauderdale, who played third base, left field and designated hitter, set a Saddleback single-season record with 65 runs batted in.
He shared the award with Pete Fukuhara, an outfielder from Canada College.
Cypress pitcher Michael Cosgrove, Rancho Santiago shortstop Tony Zuniga, and outfielders Paul Day (Saddleback) and Ryan Fullerton (Rancho Santiago) also were all-state selections.
All-state players are automatic All-Americans.
All-Southern California selections were: pitcher Ara Petrosian (Cypress), first baseman Jeremy Booth (Cypress), shortstops Poncho Ruiz (Fullerton) and Junior Rodriguez (Cypress), third baseman Derek Baker (Rancho Santiago), outfielder Erik Sobek (Rancho Santiago), utility player Keith Ginter (Cypress) and designated hitter Mike Brambilla (Rancho Santiago).
