Citizen Viewpoints Sought at Forums
Offering citizens a chance to tell Congress how to help the American family and guide foreign policy, two National Issues Forums are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday nights at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library near Simi Valley.
Visitors may voice their views in discussion groups, and cast ballots on how the U.S. government should attack these issues.
The ballots from these and more than 4,000 forums across the country then will be tallied and the results sent to national leaders and news organizations.
The events are sponsored by Public Agenda, a nonprofit, nonpartisan research and educational organization founded in 1976 by public opinion analyst Daniel Yankelovich and former U.S. Secretary of State Cyrus Vance. Past forums have focused on immigration, among other topics.
Tonight, Thousand Oaks City Manager Grant Brimhall is scheduled to lead discussions on “The Troubled American Family: Which Way Out of the Storm?” On Thursday, Richard Drobnick, USC vice provost for international affairs, will moderate a forum on “Mission Uncertain: Reassessing America’s Global Role.”
Admission is free to the 7 p.m. forums, and includes a tour of the museum at 6 p.m.
