SEASON AT A GLANCE: One of the top juniors in the area, Garland finished the season with a 26-inning scoreless streak, an 11-1 record and a 1.77 earned-run average. The 6-foot-4 right-hander’s fastball was consistently clocked in the mid-80s as the Golden Cougars won their second consecutive City 4-A title.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: In a City 4-A semifinal against El Camino Real, Garland gave up one hit and struck out 12 with two walks as Kennedy defeated the Conquistadores, 7-0. He also scored two runs and drove in two with a sixth-inning double. Playing first base in the title game the next night, Garland had a sacrifice fly in Kennedy’s 5-4 victory over Poly.
