Melon Spill Slows Traffic on Freeway
The summer season to enjoy watermelon is approaching fast, but nobody enjoyed the melons that covered the Golden State Freeway Friday night.
An 18-wheel truck dumped a load of the messy fruit on the freeway, closing three lanes in heavy Friday night traffic, the California Highway Patrol reported.
No one was injured in the 7:34 p.m. mishap at the Olive Avenue exit, but northbound traffic was slowed for more than an hour as workers cleaned up the spill, Officer Richard Perez said.
The CHP declared a Sig Alert at 8:15 p.m., but all but one freeway lane were reopened by 8:30 p.m., Perez said.
