Quakes Widen Lead in Division Battle
After losing 9-2 to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in a showdown for first place before 4,407 fans on Monday night at the Hangar, the JetHawks now must win at least two of the remaining three games in the series to have a reasonable shot at the California League Southern Division first half title.
The Quakes are two games ahead of the JetHawks (33-31) with six games remaining.
At least the JetHawks won’t have to face Rancho Cucamonga’s Cade Gaspar again. Gaspar, a right-hander out of Pepperdine, improved to 3-0 against the JetHawks this season by pitching seven innings and allowing just two runs, four hits and a walk. The JetHawks, who entered the night with a .286 team average, have hit just .208 against Gaspar.
After JetHawk first baseman James Clifford hit a two-run home run to tie the game 2-2 in the second, the Quakes went ahead for good with two runs in the third.
JetHawk starter Brett Hinchliffe gave up five runs in five innings. The Quakes pounded out 15 hits.
