A three-car accident Thursday morning on California 126 in Fillmore killed a 90-year-old Fillmore woman.

According to Sheriff’s Deputy Jerry Peterson, Faye T. James entered the highway from the El Dorado Mobile Home Estates driveway about 9:30 a.m. She pulled in front of a pickup truck being driven by John Davis, 40, of Meiners Oaks, who was traveling east about 50 mph, Peterson said, adding that Davis swerved to avoid James, but was struck on the right side of his truck.

The truck spun across the road, avoided hitting other vehicles and came to rest in a westbound lane.

A truck driven by Paul Conaway, 58, of Fillmore skidded into the left side of James’ vehicle, Peterson said. Conaway was not injured, but a passenger, 71-year-old Donald Stafford of Fillmore, was treated at Santa Paula Hospital for a bruised chest and later released.

James was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy by the county medical examiner-coroner found that James died of multiple injuries.
