North Hollywood West scored four runs in the fourth inning and Edgar Pineda made them stand up as he pitched his team to a 4-3 victory over Woodland Hills East in a District 20 game Friday at Taft High.
Pineda (3-0) threw a three-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks. He did not allow a Woodland Hills batter to reach base after the third inning, when Woodland Hills took a 3-0 lead.
Abraham Montiel had three hits to lead North Hollywood (11-6), and Merril Dunn added two hits.
Mike Ross had a double and two runs batted in for Woodland Hills (9-7).
Southern California Trojans 5, Sonoma County 0--Bryan Chan threw a one-hitter, striking out six and walking two, to lead the Valley-based Trojans in the Reno Classic at the University of Nevada.
Chan, a recent graduate of Glendale High, hit a home run to lead off the fifth.
The Trojans will meet Westlake-Royal at 2:45 p.m. in today’s semifinal.
