More Sweltering Days Forecast for Area

Valley residents will have to sweat out 100-degree temperatures for a couple of more days, forecasters said.

The hot weather and near-record temperatures that struck the San Fernando Valley this weekend will not lift until Independence Day.

“There does not look like there is going to be much of a break,” said Stuart Seto, a spokesman for the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

The hot weather is being blamed on an upper-level high-pressure system hovering over San Diego. A surface-level high is also moving into the Southern California area from the ocean, prolonging the hot weather.

It is unlikely that the two high-pressure systems will move off until Thursday. Then, temperatures will likely drop into the 90s, officials said. “Skies are pretty much going to be sunny throughout the Valley this week,” Seto said.

Sunday the mercury hit 97 in Burbank and 103 in Woodland Hills. Record highs for the day are 104 in Burbank, set in 1985, and 107 in Woodland Hills, set in 1950.
