Single-Minded Newhall Rallies for 8-7 Victory

Jeremy Seipel’s two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday capped a three-run rally and lifted Newhall-Saugus to an 8-7 District 20 victory over Antelope Valley South at Canyon High.
Daniel Freeman had a run-scoring single during the rally for Newhall-Saugus (16-4), which fell behind, 7-5, in the eighth.
Rick Engbrecht (5-0) struck out three in three innings to earn the victory in relief of Rick Thomas.
Steve Lombardi had a first-inning grand slam for Newhall-Saugus and Chris Coash added a solo home run in the fifth.
Anthony Barton had a solo home run for Antelope Valley.
Verdugo Hills 4, North Hollywood East 3--Fred Ramos’ run-scoring single capped a four-run fifth inning for Verdugo Hills (14-6) at Franklin Field.
Jesus Osuna had a solo home run, and Tony Cisneros and George O’Connor had run-scoring singles for Verdugo Hills.
Encino 12, Glendale 2--Joe Gennaro had two hits and drove in three runs for Encino (12-7) in a five-inning game at Valley College.
Michael Jackson (2-1) struck out four in five innings.
Sunland-Tujunga 4, Mission Hills 3--Ethan Slimak and Marc Lindop each had two hits at Sunland-Tujunga Senior Field.
Abe Ortez (2-2) allowed two hits and struck out two in four innings.
Jason Robitaille pitched three innings for his first save.
