Tim Parsel, who stepped down as the Estancia boys’ basketball coach in April, has been named boys’ athletic director at the school.

Parsel replaces Jeff Gall, who succeeded Ed Blanton in May. Gall, a counselor at TeWinkle Intermediate School, took a counseling position in the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School district.

Parsel left coaching to devote more time to his family, but received assurances from administration that he would get ample relief from night and weekend supervision.

Herm Ahlers of Dana Point defeated Ed Lynch of Ventura, 6-1, 6-0, Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the men’s 55 singles Hardcourt Championships at Lindborg Racquet Club in Huntington Beach.

Other Orange County players who advanced to the quarterfinals were Leonard Lindborg of Laguna Beach, who beat David Steckler of Kentfield, Ca., 6-0, 6-3; and Bob Duesler of Newport Beach, who defeated Tom Muench of Lake Arrowhead, 6-2, 6-2.
