Bohannon, Duesler Advance at Hard Court

Dave Bohannon of Garden Grove defeated Richard Perry of Enid, Okla., 6-3, 6-2, to win a fourth-round match in the U.S. Tennis Assn. National Hard Court Tennis Championships men’s 50 singles division Thursday at Huntington Beach’s Lindborg Racquet Club.

David Ahmed of Laguna Beach lost to Ken Robinson, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, in another fourth-round match.

Bob Duesler of Newport Beach defeated Hight Redmond of Colorado Springs, Colo., 6-4, 6-4, in a fourth-round match in men’s 55 singles. Herman Ahlers of Dana Point lost to Gordon Smith of Greenbrae, 6-1, 7-6, and Lenny Lindborg of Laguna Beach lost to Larry Dodge of Piedmont, 7-5, 6-3, in other fourth-round matches.

Three Orange Coast College baseball players will continue their college careers at four-year universities, the school announced. Shortstop Forest Long will attend Cal Poly Pomona. Transferring to Hawaiian schools are outfielder Adam Cancellieri (Hawaii Hilo) and pitcher Tom Barilla (Hawaii Pacific).

Christina Blankenship of Costa Mesa has signed to play softball at Southern California College, the school announced. Blankenship, who graduated from Calvary Chapel, plays outfield and catcher.

Michael Salotti has been hired as wrestling coach at Villa Park High, Athletic Director Frank Becker said. Salotti, 40, replaces Brian Fortenbaugh, who resigned. Becker said Salotti had been a volunteer coach at El Modena since 1989.
