A fire in a third-floor attic forced some residents from a Thousand Oaks apartment building Friday night, authorities said.

One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, and Red Cross volunteers responded to help those who had been displaced, according to a Ventura County Fire Department spokeswoman.

Fire personnel received the call about the blaze at 801 Pine Tree Court, just north of The Oaks mall, around 7:50 p.m.

Six engine companies and two truck companies--a total of 33 firefighters--responded, and within 45 minutes had the fire contained, the spokeswoman said.

Fire officials were surveying the apartment units at 10 p.m. trying to determine who could go back to their homes.

The cause of the fire was not known, and a damage estimate was not available Friday night.
