Thousand Oaks, composed primarily of players who won the 13-year-old World Series two years ago, defeated Long Beach twice last week in an area tournament to advance to the regional.

Thousand Oaks, 12-0 in tournament play, edged Long Beach, 6-5, Thursday in the area final. Sean Burroughs came to bat with a runner on second and one out in the seventh, but Thousand Oaks relief pitcher Kevin Howard picked off the runner and retired Burroughs on a grounder to second baseman Matt Rogers.

On Tuesday, Rogers allowed no runs in 4 2/3 innings of relief to enable Thousand Oaks to notch a 14-11 victory over Long Beach.
