A Winnetka man wanted in connection with a slaying in Bell Gardens last week was captured at San Francisco International Airport, where he was apparently trying to flee the country disguised as a woman, authorities said.

Arvin C. Cambal, 21, was arrested Wednesday night by San Francisco airport police, who had been alerted that Cambal might try to leave the country.

Airport police spokesman David Wilson said Cambal, who was dressed as a woman and using a female relative’s passport, was arrested without incident.

Cambal was wanted in connection with the beating death of Carol Holland, 55, of Bell Gardens, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Noel Lanier.

Lanier said Holland’s son, Richard, was involved in an unknown dispute with Cambal. When Richard Holland on the night of Aug. 2 returned to the home he shared with his mother, Cambal allegedly attacked him with a pipe.

Richard Holland fled to a neighbor’s house and called police, Lanier said. When police arrived, they found Carol Holland’s body inside.

Cambal was returned to Los Angeles on Thursday and booked into the Men’s Central Jail on murder charges, Lanier said.
