Rob Johnson scored twice and Tony Meola earned his league-leading eighth shutout Wednesday night as the New York-New Jersey MetroStars defeated the New England Revolution, 4-0, in East Rutherford, N.J.

The MetroStars (12-11) moved above .500 for the first time as Meola made nine saves before 20,711 at Giants Stadium.

U.S. national team defender and MLS all-star Alexi Lalas dressed for the Revolution but did not play. Lalas has criticized New England Coach Frank Stapleton and requested a trade, but the trading deadline passed without a move.
