Potts Suspended for Season for Third Drug Violation

Indianapolis Colt fullback Roosevelt Potts, suspended by for four games last month, will miss the entire regular season because he violated the NFL policy on substance abuse three times, the league announced.

Potts, an unsigned restricted free agent, is recovering from reconstructive knee surgery and had been offered a one-year contract for $361,000 before the four-game suspension that gives the team exclusive rights to him.

Kicker Matt Bahr, whose 1,422 points place him ninth on the NFL’s all-time scoring list, was waived by the New England Patriots. Bahr, 40, was beaten out by rookie Adam Vinatieri, 23, a free agent from South Dakota State. . . . Oakland Raider quarterback Jeff Hostetler will not play Friday against the New York Jets because of a sore right knee. The Raiders waived running backs Wes Bender and Ricky Ervins. . . . . The Denver Broncos signed Jeff Campbell as a punt returner. Campbell, 27, played for Denver in 1994. . . . Miami Dolphin Coach Jimmy Johnson said he is considering bringing back either Johnny Mitchell, who retired, or Eric Green, who was cut, as the team’s tight end. Quarterback Dan McGwire was one of 13 players waived, but he could be back if Mike Buck has a bad game Friday against Tampa Bay. . . . The Pittsburgh Steelers released veteran punter Rohn Stark and first-year kicker Joe Wood. . . . Nate Odomes, a two-time Pro Bowl cornerback for Buffalo, was released by the Seattle Seahawks.
