Four Piranhas Named All-League

Four members of the Piranhas were named to the all-Arena Football League teams. Offensive and defensive lineman Sam Hernandez and defensive specialist Rodney Mazion were selected to the first team and fullback/linebacker Kevin Carroll and defensive specialist Carlton Johnson were picked for the second team.

Hernandez, who had 30 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks, was a first-team selection for the second consecutive year. Mazion had 56 tackles and seven interceptions despite missing three games because of a knee injury. Mazion led the Piranhas in return yardage with 1,081 yards.

Carroll had five sacks and rushed for 73 yards and eight touchdowns as a fullback. Johnson missed four games but still had 61 tackles and two interceptions.

The screening committee for the vacant Cal State Fullerton baseball coaching position completed its review of candidates for the position Monday, and associate head coach George Horton remained the leading candidate.

Assistant Athletic Director Mel Franks, chairman of the screening committee, said the interview process probably will start Thursday.

The U.S. junior national water polo team defeated Brazil, 9-5, in the final of the Pan American Junior Championships Saturday in Havana, Cuba. Brian Heifferon, a former Servite and current Stanford player, was named tournament MVP.
