Titans’ Harmon Is Ineligible

Share

Ike Harmon, who signed with Cal State Fullerton, won’t be eligible to play basketball for the Titans next season.

Coach Bob Hawking said Thursday that Harmon did not meet NCAA qualifying standards, but has enrolled at Fullerton under Proposition 48 guidelines. Under NCAA rules, Harmon can qualify for the 1997-98 season by passing a minimum of 24 academic units.

Harmon, a 6-5 forward, averaged 22 points and 11.2 rebounds last season at Santa Ana Valley High. He was a Times’ All-Orange County selection. Harmon led the county in rebounding and was fourth in scoring.

As a non-qualifier, Harmon can’t practice with the team during the season he is ineligible.

The Titans begin workouts Oct. 15.
