OUTLOOK

The Tartans suffered a loss with the graduation of Mike Heydenrych, who passed for 1,800 yards last season after playing defensive back as a junior. On defense, they lost linebacker Russ Hennings. Gilbert takes over for Heydenrych and his primary target will be Masters, a first-team, all-league selection. Cane is a force at running back. The offensive line is a question. Arrigoni is the only returner. “We just have to train some new kids,” Lock said. The defensive line is also young, but Murphy and Sire return at linebacker. The secondary should be strong with Masters, Cane and Jameson. Brown and Nelmes also will play at defensive back. King is a transfer from San Clemente and Addy is a transfer from Mission Viejo.
