Brethren Christian 27, Los Angeles Murphy 16--Daniel Muilenburg scored three touchdowns to lead Brethren Christian.

Rob Dejong had five sacks and David Eamigh had four to lead the Warrior defense, which held Murphy to 71 yards total offense. Brethren quarterback David Priestley, who orally committed to Ohio State earlier in the week, completed 18 of 32 passes for 226 yards but also threw three interceptions, one of those returned 56 yards for a touchdown.

Heritage Christian 70, Vista Tri-City Christian 16--Jared Zelinski scored five touchdowns as Heritage Christian defeated Vista Tri-City Christian (0-1) at Glover Stadium in the Patriots’ first 11-man football game in school history. Zelinski scored on rushes of 53 and five yards. Zelinski also returned two kickoffs and a punt for touchdowns.

Jason Burns rushed seven times for 238 yards and scored two touchdowns for Heritage Christian (1-0).

L.A. Lutheran 32, Liberty Christian 12--The Minutemen could not hold off the Lions’ offensive assault in a nonleague game played at Los Angeles Baptist. Jon Stephens rushed for 76 yards on 16 carries and scored one touchdown on a six-yard run from scrimmage.

Saddleback 20, Costa Mesa 7--David Pedroza rushed for 56 yards and two touchdowns as Saddleback defeated Costa Mesa at Santa Ana Stadium in the season opener.

The Roadrunners (1-0) went out to an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Quarterback Juan Cabral found receiver Juan Lomeli at the Costa Mesa 45. Lomeli broke a tackle and completed a 59-yard touchdown reception.

Saddleback went out to a 20-7 halftime lead on Pedroza’s second-quarter touchdowns.

Steve Herzog provided the Mustangs (0-1) with their only real offense, rushing 18 times for 123 yards and a touchdown.
