Santa Margarita 27, San Diego St. Augustine 7--Santa Margarita scored touchdowns in its first two possessions and shut out St. Augustine in the first half en route to victory at San Diego.

“I thought our defense played pretty well tonight and that was really the key,” Santa Margarita Coach Jim Hartigan said. “We didn’t do everything the way we needed to on offense, but we executed really well defensively. I’m excited about how the kids played on defense.”

Quarterback Carson Palmer completed 13 of 23 passes for 142 yards and scored the Eagles’ first touchdown on a six-yard run. Palmer also teamed with receiver John Minardi on a 10-yard touchdown pass.

Running back Billy Newman rushed for 118 yards and one touchdown in 21 carries for Santa Margarita (2-0).

Century 21, Norwalk Glenn 12--Gus Gonzalez’s 43-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter clinched the victory for the Centurions. Gonzalez finished with 97 yards in 16 carries.

Victor Magana had a 13-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, as Century (1-1) led 7-0 at halftime. Cesar Perez threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Jose Serratos in the third quarter.

San Diego Francis Parker 34, St. Margaret’s 14--Skylar Hoffman ran for three touchdowns on runs of three, 10 and seven yards to lead host Francis Parker.

The Lancers jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but St. Margaret’s responded with 14 points in the second quarter to tie the score. Quarterback Dylan Gilbert connected with Justin Jameson on a 34-yard pass for the Tartans’ first score and Jameson followed with a 32-yard run to complete St. Margaret’s scoring.

Jameson finished the game with two carries for 54 yards and one touchdown. Gilbert completed eight of 18 passes for 75 yards with three interceptions and one touchdown.

Orange Lutheran 52, Long Beach St. Anthony’s 21--Nick Odenath completed seven of 15 passes for 208 yards and had four touchdowns passes for Orange Lutheran. He also rushed for another touchdown.

Orange Lutheran jumped out to a 14-0 lead before St. Anthony’s scored its first touchdown.

Mike Crawford caught two of Odenath’s touchdown passes, one of 27 yards and one for 12. Crawford caught four passes for 95 yards.
