Cub GM Lynch Gets Contract Extension
The Chicago Cubs gave General Manager Ed Lynch a one-year contract extension, one day after manager Jim Riggleman received an identical extension. The extension takes Lynch through the 1998 season, with a club option for 1999.

American League President Gene Budig set a hearing for Oct. 28 to consider the grievance the New York Yankees filed against Milwaukee regarding the trade of reliever Graeme Lloyd. The hearing in New York is to be the day after Game 7 of the World Series is scheduled. In their grievance filed Tuesday, the Yankees claimed the Brewers did not fully disclose Lloyd’s arm problems when they traded him to New York on Aug. 23. The Yankees discovered after the deal that Lloyd had a cortisone injection in his left elbow eight days before the trade, and that the reliever had a bone spur.
