* Update: The Monarchs’ defense, which figured to be their weak spot this season, hasn’t been scored on in two games. In a 37-0 victory over Long Beach Jordan last Friday, Mater Dei gave up only 30 yards and had six sacks.

* Next: Friday vs. La Palma Kennedy.

* Update: The Lancers improved their unbeaten steak to 11 games with a 17-14 victory over Redlands. Bishop Amat, which rallied from a 14-3 deficit in the fourth quarter, scored the winning touchdown on a 39-yard pass play to Joey Getherall with 2:11 to play.

* Next: Friday vs. Saugus at College of the Canyons.

* Update: The Cubs have outscored opponents, 85-19. In a 37-12 victory over Mira Costa, they scored on their first three possessions.

* Update: Running back Malaefou MacKenzie made a name for himself in a 34-0 victory over Edison. He gained 96 of his 127 yards on a touchdown run in the first quarter. He sat out the second half because of a sore right ankle.

* Update: Although they have only 37 players on the varsity, the Dons showed they belong among the elite teams with a 36-6 rout of Eisenhower.

* Update: The Panthers held off a bruising Narbonne team, 24-6, in last week’s featured contest.

* Update: Without their top two quarterbacks, the Griffins struggled in a 27-14 victory over L.A. Washington. Sophomore Ryan Hanson got the call after starter Sean Stein was sidelined because of back spasms and backup Zack Blazek sprained an ankle.

* Update: Sophomore quarterback Chris Lewis rebounded from a tough opener by completing 12 of 14 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns in a 44-6 victory over Banning.

* Update: In a 40-14 victory over Barstow, David Aranzubia kicked three field goals, including a 50-yarder.

* Update: The Braves rebounded from a disappointing tie with Eisenhower by defeating Grossmont of San Diego, 30-7.

* Update: Coach Jim Walker stressed special teams in practice this week after a muffed kickoff and punt proved costly in a 17-14 loss to Bishop Amat.

* Update: The Lancers pulled off a 36-35 victory over Hart after rallying from 21-point, fourth-quarter deficit.

* Update: The Knights ran for 431 yards and five touchdowns in a 37-14 victory over Burbank Burroughs.

* Update: Nick DiPadova passed for three touchdowns and rushed for two more in a 51-0 victory over Fairfax.

* Update: Travis Carroll passed for 234 yards and three touchdowns in a 36-35 loss to Thousand Oaks. But his failure to take a safety late in the game resulted in a Thousand Oaks touchdown with two seconds remaining.

* Update: The Pirates turned the ball over six times but still had little trouble beating Hamilton, 41-6.

* Update: The Cougars won their eighth consecutive game over Riverside Arlington, 27-7, in a nonleague contest.

* DROPPED OUT: No. 18 Narbonne (1-1), lost to Peninsula, 24-6; No. 19 Ayala (1-1) lost to Esperanza, 35-32.
