Webb’s 20 Kills Pace Irvine Past Edison

Kelly Webb had 20 kills to lead visiting Irvine over Edison, 15-10, 15-10, 12-15, 7-15, 15-8, in nonleague girls’ volleyball Tuesday.

Setter Beth Cecil had 50 assists, 15 digs and six aces for the Vaqueros (3-2). Stephanie Fike had 19 kills for Edison (3-2).

Capistrano Valley 3, El Toro 0--Adrienne Shimmel and Kristin Smith had 10 kills each for the fifth-ranked Cougars (3-1), who won, 15-2, 15-5, 16-14.

Dana Hills 3, Newport Harbor 1--Jami Bari had 14 kills and Michelle Chambers had 12 for third-ranked Dana Hills (4-1), which defeated No. 7 Newport Harbor, 13-15, 15-12, 15-9, 15-5.

Esperanza 3, La Habra 0--Jessica Sudduth had 14 kills for host Esperanza (4-0), the county’s fourth-ranked team. The Aztecs won, 15-13, 15-4, 15-4.

Fountain Valley 3, Lakewood 0--Natalie Snowden had eight kills for second-ranked Fountain Valley (5-1), which won, 15-3, 15-7, 15-4.

Los Alamitos 3, Sunny Hills 1--Annie Sciborski had 10 kills and Jessica Whitney had nine for Los Alamitos (4-1).

Valencia 3, Katella 1--Roxanna Stumpf had 11 kills and eight blocks for Valencia (5-0), which won, 12-15, 15-5, 15-4, 15-4.

Whittier Christian 3, Whittier 2--Joey Miller had 19 kills for visiting Whittier Christian (4-0), which won, 16-14, 10-15, 15-5, 10-15, 15-6. Whittier Christian is ranked third in Division IV-A. Melissa Moore had 31 kills for Whittier (3-1).

Villa Park 3, University 2--Missy Bynon had 10 kills for visiting Villa Park (3-1), which won, 15-8, 15-7, 13-15, 2-15, 15-3.

In nonleague girls’ tennis:

Rosary 13, Los Alamitos 5--Eleanor Luzano did not lose a game in singles and Amanda Mroz and Michelle Hamilton were perfect in doubles for ninth-ranked Rosary (6-1).

Capistrano Valley 11, Aliso Niguel 7--Jenny Bailey swept in singles, 7-6, 6-2, 6-0, for visiting Capistrano Valley (9-0), ranked seventh in the county.

Corona del Mar 17, San Marino 1--Caylan Leslie swept in singles, 6-3, 6-2, 6-0, and Marisol Perea and Ashley Harrington swept in doubles, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, for top-ranked Corona del Mar (8-0).

Troy 17, Esperanza 1--Junior Irene Noguchi swept in singles, 6-4, 6-0, 6-1, for Troy (5-2).

In Garden Grove League girls’ tennis:

Garden Grove 15, Bolsa Grande 3--Tam Dang and Quynh Nguyen swept in doubles, 6-3, 6-4, 6-1, to remain unbeaten this season for host Garden Grove (6-0, 2-0).

Los Amigos 11, La Quinta 7--Veronica Sommer swept in singles, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, for visiting Los Amigos (8-0, 4-0).

In field hockey:

Edison 1, Bonita 0--Tami Miller scored on a second-half penalty stroke with 16 minutes remaining for host Edison (6-0).

Huntington Beach 1, Santa Ana 1--Saira Montes scored the tying goal with 16 minutes remaining for host Santa Ana (1-2-5, 0-1-4).

In nonleague water polo:

Costa Mesa 9, Capistrano Valley 6--Todd Hylton scored three goals and Kris Montgomery and Hunter Taylor had two each for second-ranked Costa Mesa (5-1), which led fourth-ranked Capistrano Valley, 4-2, at the half.

La Habra 14, Estancia 7--Josh Drysol scored four of his seven goals in an eight-goal third quarter for host La Habra (8-5), ranked seventh in Division II.

Laguna Beach 14, Trabuco Hills 7--Spencer Dornin scored four goals to lead Laguna Beach (7-3), which outscored the Mustangs, 7-2, in the second half.

Newport Harbor 16, Tustin 7--Phil Birdsong scored four goals for 10th-ranked Newport Harbor (4-4), which led, 12-3, at the half.

Santa Margarita 13, Mission Viejo 12 (3 OT)--Taking advantage of an extra man after Mission Viejo’s Matt Feeney was ejected from the game, Chris Ansevin scored the winning goal for Santa Margarita midway through the third overtime. Ansevin finished with four goals. Brett Weiss recorded nine saves for Santa Margarita (6-2), which is ranked ninth in the county. Wes Anderson and Feeney both had four goals to lead Mission Viejo (3-5).

Westminster 15, Huntington Beach 13--Doug Davies had six goals to lead Westminster (4-3).
