Dimitrova’s Volleys Wear Down Weber St.

Getty Dimitrova had 24 kills and Cal State Northridge remained undefeated in the Big Sky Conference with a 15-2, 15-8, 13-15, 15-10, women’s volleyball victory over Weber State on Saturday night at Ogden, Utah.

Dimitrova hit .512 in 41 attempts, added four solo blocks and combined for a pair of block assists. Setter Ellie Flato had 51 assists and 13 digs for the Matadors.

Northridge (6-8, 6-0 in conference play) held Weber State (1-18, 1-5) to a hitting percentage of .096.

Pepperdine d. Portland, 15-4, 16-14, 15-7--Junior outside hitter Nicole Sanderson had 17 kills for the Waves (7-4, 2-0) in a West Coast Conference match at Pepperdine. Sanderson hit .353 and also contributed two blocks.

Carrie Romer had 14 kills, three blocks and hit .480 for the Waves.

Freshman Chrissie Novitsky had eight kills for the Pilots.

Cal Lutheran d. Occidental, 15-8, 15-8, 15-9--Karen Kasper had 11 kills and eight digs and Tracy Little added 10 kills and 15 digs for the Regals (9-2, 5-0) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at Thousand Oaks.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Cal Lutheran 2, Pomona-Pitzer 0--Jill Simmer scored her seventh and eighth goals as the Regals (8-2, 5-0) beat the Sagehens (1-6-1, 1-4-1) in an SCIAC match at Cal Lutheran.

Simmer scored in the 26th and 66th minutes. The Regals outshot Pomona-Pitzer, 12-0.

MEN’S SOCCER

The Master’s 5, UC Santa Cruz 2--Timo Scheunenann had two goals and Mark Ruhlman added one to break a 2-2 halftime tie for the Mustangs (7-3-1) in a nonconference game against the Banana Slugs (8-3) at Santa Cruz.

Scheunenann had three goals and Paul Dojo one.

Cal Lutheran 4, Pomona-Pitzer 2--Sebastian Alvarado scored two goals for the Kingsmen (4-4) in an SCIAC opener at Pomona.

WOMEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY

Stanford Invitational--UCLA freshman Kim Mortensen, the 1995 national champion for Thousand Oaks High, rolled to her third consecutive victory of the season and Jamie Whitmore led Cal State Northridge to a 15th-place finish at Stanford Golf Course.

Mortensen clocked 16 minutes 52 seconds over the 5,000-meter course, beating Courtney Pugmire of BYU by 35 seconds.

Whitmore placed 43rd in 18:58.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Channel Islands Invitational--Ronald Almaguer placed fourth and Scott Johnsen finished sixth to pace Rio Mesa to victory in the meet at College Park in Oxnard.

Almaguer clocked 15:17 over the three-mile course and Johnsen timed 15:21 as the Spartans totaled 78 points to turn back Arroyo (88), Righetti (134) and Buena (146).

Buena’s James Hipskind won in 15:05, a second off the meet record.

COLLEGE WATER POLO

Valley 6, Sierra 4--Steve Taylor scored twice for the Monarchs (7-7-1, 1-0) in the seventh-place match at the Citrus tournament.

UC Irvine 11, Pepperdine 4--Ryan Bailey had four goals for the Anteaters (5-3, 3-0) in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game at Pepperdine. Chris Tildin had two goals for the Waves (3-6, 0-3).

HIGH SCHOOL WATER POLO

Cabrillo 12, Royal 10--Joe Andelin, Dave Radka, Jason Perry, Chris Richeson and Nate Ball each scored two goals for Royal (10-5) in the championship match of the San Luis Obispo tournament.
