The Moorpark College men’s cross-country team, led by sophomore Eleazar Hernandez, and the Mission College women’s squad, paced by freshman Marisol Barajas, will be favored when the first Western State Conference meet of the season is run today at 1:30 p.m. at Griffith Park.

Today’s meet is the first of three WSC competitions and represents 25% of the overall team title scoring.

Moorpark is looking for its first WSC men’s championship since 1981 and Mission is shooting for its first women’s title since moving into the WSC two years ago.

Other college events in the region today include:

Men’s soccer: At 2 p.m., Cuyamaca at Moorpark.

Women’s soccer: At 4 p.m., Bakersfield at Ventura, Santa Barbara at Glendale, Cuesta at Moorpark, Santa Monica at Oxnard.

Women’s volleyball: At 7:30 p.m., Biola at Cal Lutheran.

High school events in the region today include:

Girls’ volleyball: At 5 p.m., Buckley at Holy Martyrs.

Water polo: At 3:15 p.m., Thousand Oaks at Newbury Park, Westlake at Royal, Malibu at Nordhoff. At 3:30 p.m., Culver City at Notre Dame.

Girls’ tennis: At 2:15 p.m., Calabasas at Westlake.
